Parts of Four
Parts of Four was founded in 2011 by the American artist and designer Evan Sugerman. His work deliberately moves between jewellery, sculpture and objects, approaching jewellery less as decoration than as a physical object with weight, surface and a presence of its own.
Sugerman’s background in sculptural processes is visible in every piece. Solid geometric forms meet deliberately raw, oxidised or acid-treated surfaces. Sterling silver, bronze, brass and gold are combined with minerals, crystals and other organic or found materials. Many surfaces change over time, making their individual ageing process part of the design.
Parts of Four describes its objects as a form of industrial, shamanic tools. This tension between the archaic talisman and a brutalist industrial aesthetic lies at the heart of the brand.
The jewellery is ungendered and deliberately non-seasonal: objects to be worn, rather than pieces defined by conventional ideas of jewellery.
